Position Summary ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION: IT Software Developers identify, document, and analyze customer, business, and system requirements; evaluate alternative approaches; and design and develop solutions tailored to specific Agency, systems, and customer requirements. They lead the testing and integration of new and modified solutions into the system. They review and provide guidance on software and configuration management of code developed internally and by vendors; test software developed internally and by vendors; and respond to urgent customer requests to develop and deliver unique solutions. They develop software, configure and manage code, plan and design systems architecture, write and maintain software program documentation, and investigate and evaluate new software technologies. They also ensure the rigorous application of information security and information assurance policies, principles, and practices to the delivery of application software services. They contribute to system and security design specification, documentation, and practice. Additional Position Info ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: NGA is seeking highly-experienced software professionals, data professionals, academics, and researchers to join its Explorer Program. The Explorer Program is a key aspect of the Agency's data-enabled workforce initiative, which focuses on empowering Agency employees with the knowledge, skills, and tools to solve contemporary and future data-related challenges in the intelligence community. Software Developers in the Explorer Program are responsible for leading the development and implementation of solutions to these challenges. Software Developers in the Explorer Program must be proven innovation leaders, coalition builders, problem solvers, and effective communicators. They must possess the ability to think and act strategically, operate in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment, and rapidly deliver impactful results. They leverage their strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with individuals inside and outside the Agency. They also have experience working on geographically distributed teams. As a Software Developer in the Explorer Program you will be working with office and directorate-level professionals on projects that solve their data-related problems. These projects are prioritized to achieve the Agency's mission, and your solutions will scale throughout the Agency. You will report to the Chief Data Scientist, who leads the Explorer Program. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: * Working as a part of a team of geographically distributed software and data professionals; * Leading in all phases of software development and willing to do whatever is needed to architect, code, test, and ship a world class product; * Leveraging good design and coding principles, thinking abstractly, mentoring other team members, and knowing how to get things done in collaborative, cross-functional teams; * Through numerous release cycles, knowing how to debug challenging issues and write solid code while collaborating well within a small, highly experienced team; * Directly influencing the product, to learn and grow, and to work with exceptional people in a great environment; * Designing, building, and delivering solutions to the Agency's complex data challenges; * Communicating with project stakeholders regarding your efforts and how they achieve the Agency's mission; * Serving as a liaison to the academic, industry, and research communities, such as presenting and publishing your work at conferences and in top-tier publications. This is a Term Appointment within NGA Not To Exceed 5 years. This position may be noncompetitively converted into a permanent full time position at the same or lower pay band and work role for which initially hired. The Term employee must have completed at least 5 years of continuous service with at least a "successful" overall rating to be eligible for conversion. Mandatory Qualification Reqs MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. Highly Desired Skills DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1.) Knowledge of RESTful API development; 2.) Experience with source code version control; 3.) Proven ability to translate product requirements into working solutions; 4.) Demonstrated experience mentoring/training other developers; 5.) Solid experience with browser technologies: JavaScript, CSS, TypeScript and frameworks such as React, Angular, SASS, etc.; 6.) Extensive experience with Machine Learning and/or Artificial Intelligence (AI).
