### Summary
These positions are temporary, have a Not-to-Exceed date and will be filled for up to 6 months. The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or funds.
These positions are located within a National Forest. The primary purpose of this position is to serves as a technical assistant in the performance of a variety of hydrology tasks, either as a crew member or individual worker.
The number and location of positions to be filled will be dependent upon individual unit needs.
Some positions will have varying work schedules. Some positions may have irregular and protracted hours of work. Tours of duty include full-time or less than full-time and will involve working weekends or irregular work hours.
The duty station for this position will be at one of the duty locations listed in this announcement. Final determination of duty station will be made by the selecting official at the time of job offer. Salary range as shown is the locality pay area of Rest of U.S. (RUS). Pay rates vary depending on location and may be higher or lower than the amount shown. Please visit the Office of Personnel Management s website for additional information on pay rates.
The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

### Responsibilities
Independently performs technical work in the field and/or laboratory which involves a variety of duties such as the following:
Develops, assembles, evaluates, adapts, and presents in tabular or graphic form, technical data in the fields of water data collection, stage data, stream discharge, rainfall, and wind gaging that includes special flow computations, current velocity analyses, flow and discharge estimations, and special data collection and study programs.
Prepares criteria for use in calibrating stream flow in open and controlled channels; makes detailed analyses for use by hydrologists and engineers in considering possibility of applying engineering theories to the rise and fall of water, water slopes, natural and artificial controls, etc.
Collects data from field recording instruments and makes on-site measurements of study area conditions. Assists on field survey crews in the collection of resource data. Prepares a variety of charts, graphs, and figures for data analysis and publication. Prepares correspondence, in draft form, relating to all phases of the work; initiates directives for securing data needed.
Maintains liaison with other elements of the Forest and Ranger District, with Forest Service personnel at higher echelons, with other Federal, state and local agencies and with public and private interests having a common interest in the collection and dissemination of the hydrological data.
Services, repairs, and installs a variety of hydrologic instruments.

Occasional travel - Position(s) may involve work away the official duty location to remote worksites within commuting distance (49 miles) and may also require overnight travel and/or camping per work assignment.

### Qualifications
You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.
GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level.
Specialized experience is defined as: Compiling and tabulating technical data which serves as a base for more complex technical studies made by hydrologists, other physician science specialists or higher-level technicians; assembling data from streamflow records and sediment sample records and loading on computer; tabulating rainfall data rainfall data and plotting data on prepared maps showing location of observation stations.-OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with a major that includes at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics.-OR
A combination of education and experience listed above.

You will be evaluated in accordance with the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. Eligible applicants will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. Applicants with veterans' preference are listed ahead of applicants who do not have veterans' preference within each category.
